Hobert Farthing, 75
Hobert Duane Farthing, 75, husband of Jeannetta “Sissy” Bach Farthing, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at his home. He was a native of Estill County and was born Jan. 5, 1933 in Irvine to the late Hobert and Della Bryant Farthing. He was retired from Westinghouse Corporation and North American Phillips in Richmond, and was also retired from the Stanton Kroger Store where he’s been a bagger for the past 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald Farthing.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Jeannetta Bach Farthing of Stanton, are one daughter, Garnetta Sue (Jerald) Faulkner of Stanton; brothers, Ivan Farthing of Hamilton, Ohio, and Davinal Farthing of Irvine; one sister Ruby Robinson of Marion, Ind.; grandchildren, Brent (Amy Jo) Faulkner , Melanie (Mike) Butler, and LeeAnna (Greg) Hageman; great-grandchildren, Justin and Hannah Faulkner, Tyler Treadway, Jacob and Hayley Butler.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton by Rev. Raymond Tipton and Rev. Jerry Smith with closing by Rev. Henry Johnson.
Pallbearers were Brent and Justin Faulkner, Tyler Treadway, Mike Butler, Greg Hageman and Tony Watson. Honorary pallbearers were Chuck Brooks, Scott Thomas, Dustin Hayes and the employees of Kroger.

Larry Townsend, 60
Larry V. Townsend, 60, 364 Townsend Rd., Clay City, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling. He was born Nov. 11, 1947 in Powell County to the late Charles and Evelyn Townsend. He worked in masonry and was a Korean War veteran.
He is survived by his daughters, Leah Paige Rock of N.C., and Laura Gail Brookshire of Richmond; a brother, Phillip Townsend of Lancaster; sisters, Wanda Banks of Jeffersonville and Sharon Townsend of Richmond; grandchildren, Brittany Brookshire, Whitney Brookshire, Katherine Rock and Veronica Rock.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wells Clay City Chapel by Rev. David Hopper with burial at Kennon Cemetery, Clay City.
Pallbearers were Robbie Scott, Eric Townsend, William (Bill) Finley, Steve Newton, Jake Newton, Brandon Newton, Chris Newton and Jime Figgs. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Conner, Cody Conner, Jerry Hopper and Johnny Hopper.

Charles Helton, 57
Charles William Helton, 57, 345 Nada Tunnel Rd., husband of Dora Helton, died Saturday. He was born March 6, 1950 in Powell County to the late Ralph Buddy and Mary Effie Helton.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Helton; one son, Shaun Helton of Stanton; daughters, Chrystal Helton , Connie Helton, Charlene Helton and Sherrie Helton, all of Stanton, and Felicia Creech of Campton; sisters, Mila King of Wolfe County, Rose Townsend of Stanton and Anita Wagner of Clay City; grandchildren, Christy Creech, Sierria Creech, Adrianna Creech, Jasmine Phipps, Caden William Spencer and Leeann Helton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Nada Baptist Church by Rev. James Smith with burial at Helton Cemetery, Slade.
Pallbearers were Brian Helton, Johnny Baker, Steven Spencer, Larry King, Cody Campbell, Steven Catron, Eddie Venters and Roger Campbell. Honorary pallbearer was Shaun Helton.

Cora Bryant, 76
Cora King Bryant, 76, 14 Miller Dr., Stanton, died Tuesday at her home. She was born Dec. 24, 1931 in Powell County to the late Shirley and Nora Hollon King. She was a retired health care and electrical assembly worker. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Johnny King.
Survivors include her sons, Lonnie ( Anna) Hatton of Lexington and Phillip (Georgia) Hatton of Stanton; a daughter, Sheila Anderson of Stanton; brothers, Jesse King and Barney King, both of Stanton, Shirley King Jr. of Clay City, Millard King of Middletown, Ohio; sisters, Josephine Deal, Linda Hatton and Sue Smith, all of Stanton; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton by Bro. Eugene Reed and Rev. Roger Crouse with burial at Stanton Cemetery, Stanton.
Pallbearers were Roger Townsend, Jarod Smith, Tim Hatton, Scott Hatton, Jeff Newcome, Britt Newcome, Zach Watts and Steve Froman. Honorary pallbearers were Gail Means, Harold Hurst and Myron Kinser.

Gloria Mendoza, 35
Gloria Lee Strange Mendoza, 35, Clay City, wife of Enrique Sandova Mendoza, died Tuesday, Feb. 12 at U.K. Medical Center. A native of Irvine, she was the daughter of James A. (Margaret) Strange of Stanton and the late Regina Tincher Strange.
Survivors include two daughters, Regina Cheyenne Strange and Destiny Dakota Strange; one son, James Enrique Strange; two brothers, James J. (Laura) Strange of Clay City, and David L. (Angie) Strange of Richmond; two sisters, Charity Ellen Strange of Richmond, and Joan D. (Nick) Conner of Clay City; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Pea Ridge Holiness Church in Estill County at 1 p.m. Saturday, by Bro. Donald Wayne Hale with burial at Pea Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Enrique Sandoval Mendoza, Jose Guadalupe Sandoval, Fransisco Sandoval, and Jose Guadalupe Sandoval.
Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mertie Faulkner, 68
Mertie Marie Faulkner, 68, of 12 5th Ave., wife of Kenneth Faulkner, died Friday at Clark Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 4, 1939 in Powell County to the late John Nicholas and Margaret Curtis Snowden. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Hershel Snowden and grandchild, Brian Keith Campbell Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Faulkner of Clay City; sons, Kenneth Faulkner Jr. and Anthony (Tonya) Faulkner; daughters, Debra (Richard) Crawford and Vanessa (Brian) Campbell; sister, Linda Willoughby; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Clay City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 at Wells Clay City Chapel by Rev. Joe Lunsford and Bro. M.C. Rice with burial at Vaughns Mill Cemetery, Clay City.
Pallbearers were Ricky Creed, Jeremy Davis, James Crawford, Richard Crawford II, Frank Carl, and Justin Carl. Honorary pallbearers were Thelma Snowden and the nurses at Stanton Nursing Center.

James Cloyd, 65
James William “Bill” Cloyd, 65, formerly of Frankfort, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital East, Lexington, following a short illness. He was born July 23, 1942, a native of Franklin County, and the son of the late James Cecil and Elizabeth Bailey Cloyd. He was employed by the Department of Transportation, Kentucky State Government and was an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Catherine Ritchie Cloyd of Slade; two sons, Ron (Amy) Cloyd of Frankfort and James Cecil Cloyd of Slade; a sister, Betty (Jim) Ashcraft of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Josh Cloyd, Justin Cloyd and Brittney Cloyd; a great-grandson, Landon William Cloyd and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at 1 p.m. by Rev. Jerry Parritt at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Josh Cloyd, Justin Cloyd, Robbie Harrod, James LaFoe Jr., Joel Corbin and Hunter Otten.
