Christmas Dinner
Community Friends invite everyone to a free Christmas dinner at Clay City Elementary on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25 at 11:30 a.m. Delivery is available (to shut ins only). For more information call 663-8244 weekdays or 663-2927 after 4 p.m.
Spay & Neuter Clinic
Friends of Powell County’s Pets Inc. will host another low-cost spay and neuter clinic in February. The date will be announced later. To sign up for February, call Amy at 606-663-1631 and leave a message. Cost for female dogs is $58; male dogs, $48; female cats, $48; male cats, $38. Dogs over 50 pounds, $10 extra. Help end the problem of unwanted and homeless animals and spay or neuter your pets. Donations can be made by calling Amy at 606-663-1631.
USDA Rural Development
The USDA Rural Development office in Winchester will be closing effective Dec. 21. The counties of Powell and Montgomery will be assigned to the Morehead area office after Dec. 21. The office is located at 220 West First Street, Morehead, KY 40351. To contact the Morehead area office after Dec. 21, call 606-784-6447, ext. 4.
Class of 1968
The Powell County High School Class of 1968 will have their 40th year class reunion May 24, 2008. We are in the process of locating and notifying all class members. Civil War Roundtable
The bi-monthly meeting of the Madison County Civil War Roundtable will be on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Glyndon Dining Room, W., Main St., Richmond.
Smoking Cessasation
The Powell County Health Department will offer the Cooper/Clayton program to stop smoking beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the Powell County Extension Office. The program will meet for 13 weeks and is free. Participants will b responsible for purchasing nicotine replacement products, however graduates will be reimbursed for 50 percent of the money spent on these products at the completion of the program. Vets Representative
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the Powell County Courthouse, Stanton, on the first Thursday of each month from 9-11:30 a.m. Veterans and their families will be given counseling in filing for federal and state veterans benefits. This service is free. Call 1-866-376-0308 and leave a message. Come and bring all documents pertaining to filing a claim.
Community Ed
Community Education in Winchester will offer State Registered Nurse Aide Training (CNA) Jan. 8—March 11 on Tuesday and Thursday 5—9 p.m. at the Clark County Area Technology Center, 650 Boone Ave., Winchester. The cost is $205 and textbooks are available at Bethany Book Room in Winchester. Contact 859-745-3946 for more information or to register. Make checks payable to Community Education and mail to 24 W. Toy Car Drive
The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children in Lexington is having a die cast car drive to provide cars for their patients. The cars can be Hot Wheels, Matchbox, or generic. Cars can be dropped off at any Powell County Whitaker Bank or People’s Exchange Bank. This drive is lead by Life Scout Keith Caudill of Troop 361 for a service project. Flu Shots
The Powell County Health Department is scheduling appointments for all patients regardless of risk, for flu shots. Medicare and Medicaid recipients will not be charged. The charge is $23 for all others. Call 663-4360 to schedule an appointment.
DAV Meeting
The Powell County DAV Chapter #103 has changed their meeting dates from the third Tuesday of each month to the second Thursday at 6 p.m.
1958 Class Reunion
The Powell County High School Class of 1958 are planning a 50th class reunion in the spring/summer of 2008. If you are a 1958 PCHS graduate, please contact one of us by phone or email for updating records. Teen (non-smoking) NA meeting will be held Monday and Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at 5226 Main Street, Clay City. All other NA meetings will be Wednesday, 5 p.m., 5226 Main Street, Clay City, Friday, 8 p.m., 5226 Main Street, Clay City, and Sunday, 1:30 p.m., 5226 Main Street.
Clay City Lions Club
The Clay City Lions Club meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Larry Birch Amvets Post 67 on Veterans Lane in Clay City. Everyone is welcome.
