Carol Miller, 56
Carol Higgins Miller, 56, wife of Barry Miller, 2246 Morris Creek Road, Stanton, died April 10, 2008 at her residence. She was the daughter of Louise Jones Townsend and the late Dorvan Townsend and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She had retired after 27 years of teaching at Clay City Elementary, and later became the principal director of Stanton Christian Academy.
In addition to her husband, Barry Miller and her mother, Louise Townsend, she is survived by two children, Ralph Higgins III of Stanton, and Autumn Higgins of Lexington; one brother, Harold Wayne (Jane) Townsend of Peru, Ind.; her mother-in-law, Maxine Miller of Campton; two step-children, Joshua (Melissa) Miller of Lexington, and Tiffany (Robert) Powell of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and two step-grandchildren, Katie and Ben Powell
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Emmanuel Baptist, Stanton, by Bro. Greg Webb with burial at Rogers Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy Monnett, George Drake, Brad Epperson, Brinton Epperson, Gary Willoughby and Clifford Townsend. Honorary pallbearers were Larry and Kay Epperson, Sherdan and Norma Jean Hall, Beth Puckett, Mike and Shirley Alexander, Donn Webb, David and Pam Miller, Marie Fain, Fred and Polly Tuttle.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Stanton Christian Academy, P.O. Box 910, Stanton, KY 40380-0910.

Roxanne Haws, 50
Roxanne Marie Haws, 50, North Queen Street, Mt. Sterling, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at her residence. She was a daughter of Phyllis Fourman Flory and her husband Harold Flory of Michigan and Charles Roberts of Versailles. She was a homemaker and attended Mill Knob Baptist Church, Stanton.
Survivors include two sons, Rick DuPrie of Boca Raton, Fla. and Ryan Scott Haws Jr. and his wife Amber, stationed in Iraq; one daughter, Dawn DuPrie of Mt. Sterling; four brothers, Rex Flory of Mich., Brian Flory of N.J., Doug Roberts and his wife Tammy of Waynesburg, and Richard Roberts of Versailles; one sister, Susan Hubbert and her husband Delbert of Michigan; three grandchildren, Rakell, Katelyn and Sky Haws and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Hearne Funeral Home Chapel, Stanton by Bro. Johnny Hurt with burial at Roberts Cemetery, Courtney Lane, Stanton.
Pallbearers were Rick DuPrie, Ryan Haws Jr., Grant DuPrie, John Chambers, Rex Flory and Brian Flory. Honorary pallbearers were Harold Flory, Renee DuPrie and Charles Roberts.

Alwena Goodwin, 77
Alwena Smallwood Goodwin, 77, widow of Virgil Goodwin Sr. of Vine Street, Stanton, died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Stanton Nursing Center. She was a daughter of the late Elec C. and Emma Skidmore Smallwood and a member of Bowen First Church of God. She was a retired Kroger employee and a member of Bowen First Church of God WCG Ladies Group.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, William Franklin Goodwin; one grandson, Mark William Keith; and six siblings, Bill Smallwood, Anne Smallwood Pelfrey, Cecil Smallwood, Dora Ellen Smallwood Wireman, Ollie Smallwood and E.C. Smallwood Jr.
Survivors include three sons, Virgil Earnest Goodwin Jr. and his wife Gloria of Athens, Tenn., James Alec Goodwin and his wife Myra and David Ray Goodwin and his wife Cheryl of Stanton; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Keith and her husband Mark of Winchester, and Janet Carol Goodwin of Stanton; her daughter-in-law, Mary Goodwin Shepherd; one brother, J.M. Smallwood of Stanton; one sister, Gladys Smallwood Faulkner of Winchester; four sisters-in-law, Carolyn Smallwood of Irvine, Virginia Boyd of Stanton, Anna Mae Neff of Jonesville, Va., and Iwanna Goodwin of Charleston, W. Va.; nine grandchildren, Daphne Keith, Becky Vallejo, Emily Cox, Johnathan (Carol), James Brandon, William Ryan, Jarod and Brett Goodwin; and five great-grandchildren, Matteo and Jordan Vallejo, Michael, Brooke and Zach Otis.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 by Bro. Stephen Donithan, Bro. Larry Mullins and Johnathan Goodwin, at Bowen First Church of God, Stanton with burial at Stanton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Talmadge Smallwood, Bobby Picklesimer, Cebert Faulkner, Harold Faulkner, Mike Neff, Charles Smallwood, Gene Smallwood, Jay Means, Larry Cox and Delbert Brown. Honorary pallbarers were Kroger employees, Bowen First Church of God WCG Ladies Group, Jean Slemp, Bill and Darnell Mize, John and Kathryn Cox, Bonnie Patton, Mary Shepherd, Stanton Nursing Center employees, Teresa Kinser and Winfred Hughes.
