Prayer Conference
The Powell County Ministerial Association invites the community to the third annual “City on its Knees” prayer conference Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The conference is free and located at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Stanton. Featured speaker is Dr. Jim Orrick and others. There will be special music and fellowship and worship.

Hunter Eduaction
A Hunter Education Course will be offered at the Powell County Extension Office on Friday, May 2 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and continuing on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Yard Sale/Car Wash
PCMS Girls basketball will sponsor a yard sale and car wash Saturday, May 3 at the Powell County Middle School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Car wash on, $5; wash and vacuum, $8; wash, vacuum and detailed, $15. Rain date, May 10.

Golf Scramble
A Golf Scramble sponsored by the Powell County Football Boosters will be May 3 at 9 a.m. at Meadow’s Golf Course. Try to arrive around 8 a.m. Entry fee is $30 and $5 Calcutta. Payout based on number of teams. There will be food, pop and water available. Funds are being raised to help support the Powell County Football Program. Fire Dept. Fundraiser
The Middlefork Fire Department will have its fundraiser May 3. A board member election will be held starting at 12-4 p.m. Any property owner will be eligible to vote. Current nominations are Greg Crabtree (existing board member).

HCTC GED
Hazard Community and Technical College will offer GED testing in Campton at the Wolfe County Adult Education Center on April 24 and 25. Registration for the GED test will begin at 9 a.m. with testing immediately following. First time students will need to attend both testing days. On the first day of testing, students will complete the demographics form, the mathematics test, and the language arts writing test. On the second day of testing, students will complete the science, social studies and language arts reading tests. Photo identification is required for each student on each testing day and a signed GED application is required for all first time testers. Democrats
The Democrats In Action will hold their meeting on Thursday, April 24 at the Powell County Courthouse at 7 p.m. Kentucky Speaker of the House, Jody Richards will be the guest speaker, talking about the state budget and what Powell County can expect.

Masonic District Meeting
Master Masons in District 24 of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, consisting of Bath, Bourbon, Clark, Montgomery, Nicholas, Powell and Wolfe counties are invited and encouraged to attend the district meeting Saturday, April 26 at George Rogers Clark High School, 620 Boone Ave., Winchester. The meal will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting to follow at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to Master Masons only.

Relay for Life Cruise-In
A Cruise-In to benefit Relay for Life will be held Saturday, April 26 from 6-9 p.m. at Whitaker Bank, Main St., Stanton; Exit 22 off Mountain Parkway. DJ will be Charlie Napier. Concessions by the Relay for Life Team. There will be grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, homemade hot dog sauce, chops and drinks, and homemade baked goodies. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. Food will also be sold at the old State Garage on Saturday, April 26 beginning at 9 a.m. with breakfast of tenderloin biscuits and ham biscuit. Lunch will be hot dogs w/chili sauce and barbecue sandwich, chips and drinks.

Rummage Sale
Friends of Powell County’s Pets will have a rummage sale Saturday, May 3 at Clay City Elementary from 7:30 a.m. till 3 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the animals in the pound. Donations of gently used items are welcome. Call Laurie at 663-4257 or Sarah at 663-6651 before May 1 if you have an item to donate.

Smoking Cessation Classes
The Powell County Health Department will offer the Cooper/Clayton program to stop smoking began Thursday, April 3 at 6 p.m. at the Powell County Extension Office. The program will meet for 13 weeks and is free. Participants will be responsible for purchasing nicotine replacement products, however graduates will e reimbursed for 50 percent of the money spent on these products at the completion of the program. Goat Auction
A Boer Goat Auction will be held at Clark County Fairgrounds April 26. Goat registration is 9-11 a.m.; viewing from 9-11:30 a.m. Sale starts at 11:30 a.m. and lasts until the last goat is sold. Goat must have papers, kids must have registration application, sellers must be present during sale, all goats must have scrapie tags, 7 percent commission per goat sold. Spay & Neuter Clinic
Friends of Powell County’s Pets and Woodstock Animal Foundation will host spay and neuter clinics May 10 at the Clay City Elementary school. Space will be limited to 30 animals. The new contact numbers to call is 606-663-6651 or 859-749-5707 and ask for Sarah. Price includes spay or neuter, rabies and vaccinations shots. Female dog is $58; male dog is $48; female cat is $48; and a male cat is $38. Animals over 50 pounds and pain medication will be $10 extra.

4-H Camp
4-H camp “Amazing Race...Around the World” will be June 30-July 3 at J.M. Feltner 4-H camp at London. Registration fee is $120. Contact Extension Office to have application form mailed to you or download them from our website.

Veterans Benefits
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative with the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs will be at the Powell County Courthouse, Stanton on the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Veterans and their families will be given counseling in filing for Federal and State Veterans benefits. This service is provided free of any charge or fee by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Department of Veterans Affairs. Call and leave a message at 1-866-376-0308, leave a message, your call will be returned. Bring all documents pertaining to filing a claim.

Class of 1988
