Horse Show
The Jr. Robinson Memorial Horse Show will be Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Richmond Fair Grounds, Proceeds go to Boy Scouts Troop #144.

Estill County Library
The History Mobile will be at the Estill County Public Library on Friday, July 18 from 1-4 p.m.

School Schedule
Monday, Aug. 4, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  -  pass out senior schedules, enroll new and returning students; 1 p.m.  – 3 p.m.   -  pass out Jr. Schedules,  enroll new and returning students.
Thursday, Aug. 7, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. , pass out sophomore schedules, enroll new and returning students; 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Freshman Orientation, pass out freshmen schedules.

Dulcimer Club
The Estill County Dulcimer Club meets every Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Estill County Library.

Riversweep 2008
Kentucky Riversweep 2008 will meet Saturday, July 19 at 9 a.m. at the boat dock under the bridge, to clean the beach area at Lock 12. All interested parties should contact Judge Taylor's office at 723-7524. Trash bags, gloves and a t-shirt will be given to all participants.

Estill County Library
Summer reading ends with an ice cream sundae party on Tuesday, July 22 at 1 p.m. at the Estill County Public LIbrary. Children who have met book requirements will be eligible for prizes. Come and celebrate reading with us.

Women's Health Clinic
The Estill County Health Department, Estill County Cancer Coalition and Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital will sponsor a Women's Health Clinic July 30 at Estill County Health Department. The Cancer Coalition will give away $10 Wal-Mart gift cards to ladies in the target group who have never had a mammogram or have not had one in the last five years. Refreshments will be provided by Marcum & Wallace Hospital. A gift bag with information included will be given to all participants and two lucky ladies will win a door prize. The target group for this event is women age 40 to 64 without health insurance, and income under 185 percent of poverty. Cancer screenings including PAP tests and clinical breast exams will be provided. Appointments will be scheduled for women needing mammograms at the Marcum & Wallace Hospital. If you are a woman over the age of 40 you should get a PAP test and mammogram every year. You could be eligible for a free or low-cost mammogram. Call 723-5181 to schedule an appointment.

Homeschool Group
The Homeschool Enrichment Group will meet on July 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Estill County Public LIbrary. The guest presenter will be Sarah Hart, local author. She will read from her latest book.

Youth Football Signups
The Estill County Youth Football League sign ups will be July 19 and Aug. 2 from 12 - 3 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, Ravenna. Visit the website: ecyfl.com or call 723-8121 for more information.

American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary will have a yard sale Aug. 2 at 8 a.m. at the American Legion Post in the basement.

American Legion
American Legion Post 79, Irvine is sending items to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you have a loved one in either place contact the American Legion at 723-4716 or Pleas McIntosh at 723-3002 or Louis Officer at 723-7192. We want to show the young men and women that we care about them serving so far from home.

Madison County Historical Society
Dr. Larry Hood will present a program on "What is a Kentuckian?" at a picnic to be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Old Cane Baptist Springs Church on College Hill Road. Call 859-624-2760 for picnic reservations.

Red Lick Valley Singing
Red Lick Valley Gospel Singing will be Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19 at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Concessions are available. Camping with electricity is available for $8 per day. Location: Tracy Jenkins Farm Festival Grounds, Red Lick Road, Irvine.

Herb Club
The Garden Thyme Herb Club will meet July 17 at 7 p.m. at the Catholic Church in Ravenna. The club will celebrate the country's birth. Those attending are asked to wear something red, white and blue, and bring a dish for the potluck that will display these colors. The herb of the month will be a discussion on black cohosh. Pat Novak will give a presentation on the old and new ways of drying herbs. Members are asked to bring some herb seeds, plants, pamphlets, or recipes to give to new members. Members should turn in unsold Granny's Remedies books or the money from sales.

Free Concert
Irvine Health & Rehab Center will host a free gospel music concert Saturday, July 19 at 6 p.m. in the facility courtyard. Featured artists are "Assembled," 2006 mixed group of the year; Debbie Wilson, 2008 female vocalist of the year; "His Praise," nominated for 2008 duet of the year; Trey Edwards, nominated for 2008 male vocalist of the year.

ECHS Grad Programs
Estill High graduation programs from 1969 to 1987 are wanted by Estill County High committee. Copies are fine. Mail to Sarah Noland, 65 Noland Hill Rd., Irvine, KY 40336.

Car Show
DAVA's Railroad Days Festival Car Show will be Aug. 2, Main St., Ravenna. Registration is $15 (registration table closes at 1 p.m.). Top 50 Best of Show; Peoples Choice. For more information call Alma Jones 606-723-9468. All proceeds go to the Daniel Boone Chapter #94 Disabled America Veterans.

Boys Middle School Soccer
The Estill County Middle School Boys Soccer Team will have open field and conditioning starting on July 17 at 6 p.m. at the Middle School soccer field directly behind Estill Springs Elementary School. Any boy that will be in the grades 5-8 in the 2008-2009 school year that would like to play soccer should try to attend the open field and conditioning. If your child thinks he would like to play but isn't sure, he can attend anyhow. If unable to attend on the 17 please call Coach Witt at 723-6811
 
Adult Ed
Adult Education service dates for the upcoming months are as follows. Even though our office will not be open full-time in July we do have some office hours. Will be open through July 21. The next GED test date is August 19, 20.

Historic Walking Tours
Beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10 and continuing the remaining Thursdayts in July, visitors may experience history of Madison County up to the 1920s. Costumed guides will escort visitors from station to station during this downtown event. Visitors will gather at the Madison County Hall of Justice on West Main Street for the leisurely one hour, four block walk. Were comfortable shoes. The event is free and reservations are not necessary. For more information call 859-314-3356.

Gourd Painting Workshop 
There will be a Gourd Painting Workshop on Tuesday, July 29  at 6 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Office. Cost is $10. 
Farmers' Market
The Estill County Farmers Market is now open for the season; Tuesdays, 2 - 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., held at the Estill County Fair Barn, Highway 89.
 
Order of Eastern Star
Irvine Chapter #357 Order of the Eastern Star is sponsoring a $200 gas card raffle. Drawing will be held on Aug. 3 at the Railroad Festival in Ravenna. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. See any Eastern Star member or call W.J. Noland at 723-6310.
