Elizabeth A. Estes, 52
Elizabeth Ann Estes, 52, wife of Millard Clay Estes, 5698 Hardwicks Creek Road, Clay City, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at her residence. Born in Winchester, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Bonnie Shimfessel Townsend and a member of Clay City United Methodist Church.
She received her associate degree in nursing from Kentucky Tech and she was the former MDS Coordinator at Clark Regional Medical Center. She was a local artist who painted several pictures and she had published two children’s books.
Surviving relatives are her husband Millard Clay Estes; two daughters, Lori Hall and her husband Chris and Janice Rice and her husband Chad both of Clay City; one brother, Roger Townsend and his wife Ella of Rome, Georgia; two sisters, Vonda Kaye Lowe and her husband Todd and Joey Watkins both of Clay City, and two grandchildren, Clayton Dale Hall and Emmalyn Elizabeth Rice.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Brookshire.
Funeral services were officiated by Bro. Kim Rose, Bro. Jesse Rogers and Bro. Anthony Molihan at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2009 at Hearne Funeral Home Chapel, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Burial was in Estes Cemetery with Linville Willoughby, Wally Snowden, Tim Hall Jr., Roger Townsend Jr., Frank Carl and Goat Rice having served as her active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Townsend, Tracy and Linda Snowden, Ralph Townsend, Jesse and Louise Rogers, Toby and Sarah Howell and Jewell Mullins. Eithel L. Martin, 93
Eithel L. Martin, 93, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Miami Valley Hospital after a short illness. She was born October 24, 1915 to D. B. and Corda (Lykins) Hollon in Wolfe County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Middletown and sang in the choir for many years.
Eithel graduated from Powell County High School in Stanton and then completed two years of college. She served as a substitute teacher in the Middletown School District for a short time. Her career also included working at Streifthau Hardware Store, Lewis Drug Store and she retired in 1980 after 13 years from Merrell Pharmaceutical (now P & G) in Reading, Ohio.
During her early years, she played quitar and bass as well as sang in a country music band in Ashland and Lexington. She is preceded in death by her three brothers, Alden, Wilson and Bernard.
Eithel is survived by her son, Henry “Hank” (Molly) Craycraft of Middletown; grandchildren, Erin (Jeff) Colligan of Cincinnati, Seth Craycraft of Middletown, Bridget (Josh) Rolfes of Lawrenceburg, Ind. and Shannon (Bryan Dye) Craycraft of Middletown; sisters, Ina Fisher of Middletown, Audrey King of Winchester and Delsie Hollon of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Betty Hollon of Winchester and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The Celebration of Life service was on Saturday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment was at Woodside Cemetery.

Alberta Pitts, 79
Alberta Martin Pitts, 79, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky died June 26, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling. She was born July 24, 1929 in Powell County to Luther and Vertner Spencer Martin. She attended Christian Assembly and was a former employee of A.O. Smith and Hawkins Branch Elementary School. She loved cooking, gardening, quilting and reminiscing.
Survivors include: 3 daughters: Devona Ledford of Stanton, Virginia (Wendell) Helton of Clay City, Kathy (Ralph) Howard of Camargo; 2 grandsons: Stephen Howard and Jansen Ledford, both of Stanton; 2 step-grandchildren: Wendy Pelfrey and Chris Helton, both of Campton; four great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren; four sisters: Della Martin, Vergie Finney, Tressie Wasson and Lucille Layne, all of Clay City. She was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, two brothers, and a very special son-in-law Truman. Services were held Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Herald and Stewart Chapel with the interment at Lovely Cemetery.

Donald R. Thompson, 74
Donald Roger Thompson, 74, husband of Freda Parker Thompson, 25 Cow Creek Road, Stanton, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. Born in Perry County, he was a son of the late Dewey and Willie Mae Hogston Thompson and a US Army veteran. He was a retired truck driver and he attended the Ark of Mercy Church.
Surviving relatives in addition to his wife are his daughter, Regina Whitehurst of Stanton; his brother, Taylor Russell of Madison, Ohio; his sister, Alice Meeks of Geneva, Ohio; two grandchildren, Faith Tincher and Steven Ritchie; two great grandchildren, Alexis Fugate and Zachary Tincher and nieces, Rebekah and Donna Parker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Thompson and his great grandchild, Hannah Tincher.

Rick K. Wasson, 42
Rick K. Wasson, 42, of Clark County, husband of Lori Bowser Wasson, died on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond. Rick was born in Clark County on August 5, 1966 to Wavelene Wasson and the late Melvin Wasson. He was a licensed electrician, an HVAC technician and a member of Central Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three daughters, Alexandria Blair Wasson, Megan Kate Wasson and Ashton Grace Wasson, all of Winchester; a brother, Terry (Penny) Wasson of Winchester; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Johnell and Richard McNees of Winchester; a nephew Brandon Wasson of Winchester; a niece, Sarah Ellen McNees of Winchester; and a father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Sharon Bowser of Winchester; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Ruth Smith and Huston and Florence Wasson.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2009 at Scobee Funeral Home by Dr. Art Beasley. Burial was in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ryan Haggard, Michael Brandon Haggard, Brandon Wasson, Doug Thomas, James Stone, and Frank Green. Honorary pallbearers were Lonzo Wasson, Garland Haggard Jr., Richard McNees, Jerry Jones, Raymond Smith, Dwight Smith, Gene Culton, Gary Hubbard, Eddie Ison, Brian Murray, Scott Miller, Tom Wipert, and David Anderson.
