Pirates Basketball Camp

The Powell County boys basketball team will host a camp for players in grades 1-8 June 9-12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the PCHS gym. The players will work with Pirate Coach Kyle Lively, his staff and current Pirate players on fundamentals, with a special emphasis being placed on shooting, dribbling, passing and defense. The players will learn, play games and there will be competitions. At the end of the week, awards will be handed out to winners in each category. The cost is $45 and includes all activities, t-shirt and basketball. Registration will be Monday, June 9 at 8:30 a.m. at the gym lobby.

Horse Show
Powell County girls and boys basketball will sponsor the Stidham Memorial Horse Show June 7 at 4 p.m. at Powell County Lions Club Park. For more information contact Ken Jones at 606-663-3320 or Kyle Lively at 606-663-3505.

PADD Car Show
The 4th Annual PADD Car Show will be Saturday, June 7 at Estill County Fairgrounds. Registration is from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Entry fee: $20. $500 and plaque to “Best of Show.” $100 and plaque to Best: GM, Ford, Mo-Par, Street Rod, Truck, Foreign, Original, Engine, Paint and Interior Plaques to top 75 Goodie Bag/Dish Plaque to 1st 100 registered. 50/50 Pot, Door prizes, Food Available, vendors Welcome. Patton Reunion
The family reunion for family and friends and relatives of Enies and Martha Patton will be held at Clay City Community Center on June 14 from 12-5 p.m. Bring a covered dish, come and enjoy.

Roberts/Brewer Reunion
The descendants of the late Herbert Roberts and Lorene Brewer Roberts invite all family relatives and friends to a reunion Saturday, July 19 at the Lions Club Park in Stanton. Bring a covered dish, musical instruments. Doors open between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. and the reunion goes on all day.

Powell County Library
“Catch the Reading Bug” program will be at the Powell County Public Library and the Community Building in Clay City for the 2008 Summer Reading Program. Starting Wednesday, July 2, 9, 16, 23 at the library at 9:30-11 a.m. Community Building in Clay City Wednesday 2, 9, 16, 23 from 1-2:30 p.m. The program is for children going into the first grade through 5th. Children can register for the program starting in the middle of May or at the end of the school year. We will be giving away prizes all through the program. The last day we will have a party with certificates and rewards. The library welcomes children of all abilities. For more information call the library at 606-663-4511.

PCHS Class of 1998
The Powell County High School Class of 1998 is planning a 10-year reunion on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. at Hall’s on the River in Winchester. The cost for dinner will be $23.95 per person. Donations Needed

Foothills yard Sale
Foothills Community Action Partnership Powell County Outreach Office will have a yard sale Saturday, June 7. They are in need of good, clean items to be donated. Donations can be dropped off at the Outreach Office, 176 12th Street, Clay City from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call 663-2659.

4-H Camp
4-H camp “Amazing Race...Around the World” will be June 30-July 3 at J.M. Feltner 4-H camp at London. Registration fee is $120. Contact Extension Office to have application form mailed to you or download them from our website.

Veterans Benefits
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative with the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs will be at the Powell County Courthouse, Stanton on the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Veterans and their families will be given counseling in filing for Federal and State Veterans benefits. This service is provided free of any charge or fee by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Department of Veterans Affairs. Call and leave a message at 1-866-376-0308, leave a message, your call will be returned. Bring all documents pertaining to filing a claim.

DAV Meeting
The Powell County DAV Chapter #103 has changed their meeting dates from the third Tuesday of each month to the second Thursday at 6 p.m.

1958 Class Reunion
The Powell County High School Class of 1958 are planning a 50th class reunion in the spring/summer of 2008. If you are a 1958 PCHS graduate, please contact one of us by phone or email for updating records.
